When Pat Robertson made an irresponsible statement about assassinating Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the MSM media was all over it. The left is trying to use the MSM coverage to smear American conservatives because of Robertson’s irresponsible statement. The MSM is joining in by putting Bush administration officials on the spot. Here is their reaction:
The Bush administration swiftly and unequivocally distanced itself Tuesday from a suggestion by religious broadcaster Pat Robertson that American agents assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a frequent target of U.S. foreign policy.
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, appearing at a Pentagon news conference, said when asked: "Our department doesn't do that kind of thing. It's against the law. He's a private citizen. Private citizens say all kinds of things all the time."
Acknowledging differences with the Caracas government, and saying it should be promoting democracy in the Western Hemisphere, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack called Robertson's remarks "inappropriate."
"This is not the policy of the United States government. We do not share his views," McCormack said in a flat refutation of Robertson's suggestion that the United States "take out" Chavez to stop Venezuela from becoming a "launching pad for communist influence and Muslim extremism."
Fox News reported that CNN spent most of yesterday afternoon on the Robertson statement. When Cindy Sheehan says irresponsible things, where is the MSM? Her position is that the terrorists are 'freedom fighters', and the American Commander in Chief is the terrorist:
Cindy Sheehan, the so-called Peace Mom seeking a second meeting with President Bush in connection with the Iraq War death of her son, says terrorists killing Americans are "freedom fighters."
She made the remark during her trek earlier this month to Crawford, Texas; but her equating the enemy with freedom fighters has not been highlighted by the mainstream media, despite her telling it directly to a reporter for CBS News.
…
A WorldNetDaily search of CBS News, Google News, and Lexis-Nexis archives found not a single news report mentioning Sheehan's "freedom fighters" remark.
Now we understand why President Bush’s approval rating on the Iraq war is below 40%. Perhaps if the MSM gave their customers a fair and balanced presentation of the situation, people like Cindy Sheehan would not be giving bin Laden reasons to celebrate and increase his resolve to defeat America.
