Government accountability

Yesterday’s Dave Kranz column included this:

A Web site to help hold state government accountable?

That is what Lee Breard, director of the South Dakota Conservative Action Council, is offering. He says that is the goal of the new information center, www.USASpending. gov, and he is calling on political leaders in Pierre to share that ideal.

"Given the recent bad publicity on secret government contracts in South Dakota, we need to have the same transparency that the federal government now has," Breard said.

The objective is to offer a simple way to determine things such as who receives state contracts and how state money is spent.
