Pat Powers has given out some political advice regarding my last post on issues and elections:
In our imperfect world, people base their votes on several factors. And the truth is, whether they know a candidate or not is the most important thing in the eyes of many voters. In other words, NAME ID. comes first, issues second
And then this:
Drop that to a legislative level for someone who has never held office, and doesn’t have nearly the advertising budget that a statewide race has - how much time do you think they have to spend just to introduce themselves? How much of their resources have to be invested in telling people "John Doe for State Senator." If you’re not the incumbent, darn near all of them.
Pat and I have had are battles, but I do appreciate his advice. So how about my campaign slogan, "Sibby for Senate to Serve you"? I suppose I have to change my voter registration to Steve "Sibby" Sibson or something like that to be legal.
Tonight the Mitchell School Board delayed the decision on Dr. Joe Grave’s request to run for the legislature. So we still don’t know for sure which chamber he will go. Democrat Rod Hall was there and said he was going to run for whichever chamber Graves takes. There is some kind of revenge going on there I guess.
But I am still guessing that Graves will go to the House race. If so, and Hall goes that direction, and Democrat Mel Olson is saying affirmatively that he is not running, will there even be a Democrat even running for the District 20 Senate seat? I think Ed Olson ran unopposed twice. So would it not make more sense to give the District 20 voters a choice in November with an Independent "Sibby for Senate" versus Republican Vehle? And lets say that after it is all over, there are 17 Republicans, 17 Democrats, and one Independent Sibby in the Senate chamber for 2009? Who would control the majority? Sibby?
