United Way, Planned Parenthood and Preschool
From Keloland:
The Sioux Empire United Way set the bar high with an $8.6 million goal for 2008. The organization did better than that, surpassing $9 million.
Campaign Chair Ray Trankle says it can only mean good things for the agencies they serve.
"To meet all of the commitments we made around the $8.6 million goal, and now we'll go through the review process and look at organizations that maybe didn't get as much as they asked for," said Trankle.
The money will also be used to expand an education program that began this fall, called Starting Strong. It helps low-income families pay for preschool.
"And many of these youngsters would not have an opportunity if it weren't for Head Start of this Starting Strong program," Trankle said.
Now, with the extra money from the 2008 campaign, United Way is able to enroll more than 100 additional children in Starting Strong over the next three years... giving them a running start at their education.
"It's people helping people; that's why we're so successful," said Trankle.
And it's why Trankle says he's so proud to live in such a giving community.
Starting Strong is supported by Forward Sioux Falls, and is in line with Governor Rounds’ 2010 Education Initiative.
Here is more work United Way does for children:
Everyone knows Planned Parenthood, the non-profit organization that promotes "family planning." They are almost universally portrayed by the media as a positive, helpful group that just wants to help families and especially women, standing for reproductive freedom, enlightened attitudes, and good health. They receive charitable support from United Way and many other organizations and individuals; they are given a platform in many schools and universities and work closely with educators to influence young people in ways that are supposed to be positive and healthy.
There's just one little detail that is overlooked by the media, United Way, the schools, and most of the American public: Planned Parenthood's actions show that it is one of the most vile, harmful organizations in our midst, promoting dangerous illicit sex and actively aiding child molesters by concealing their crimes. These are not wild accusations, but are strongly supported by hard evidence. A recent investigation of Planned Parenthood demonstrates a nationwide pattern of discouraging victims of child abuse from reporting the crime. In particular, young women who have been sexually exploited by adult males have been repeatedly told to conceal the crime. The investigation by Life Dynamics, Inc. of Denton, Texas, published a report on this matter which received national publicity by WorldNetDaily.com in the article, Planned Parenthood Concealing Crimes? by Jon Dougherty, May 21, 2002. Here is more on the Starting Strong program:
Starting Strong in the Sioux Empire is a community partnership between the Sioux Empire United Way, Forward Sioux Falls, the Sioux Falls School District, and Governor Mike Rounds' 2010 Education Initiative. Research for the program was provided by SD Voices for Children, and it will be facilitated through the Sioux Falls School District. Five local providers (Excel Achievement Center, Kidz Club Preschool, Sioux Falls School District at Mark Twain Elementary, Volunteers of America-Dakotas, and Youth Enrichment Services) will be accepting preschool students through the Starting Strong program at eight different locations.
And here is a link to some of the Forward Sioux Falls honchos. Seems like there are a lot of bankers. Could this be some more of that public/private partnership plutocracy? You wouldn’t think that this Pre-school program is about free Daycare so that the parents become cheap labor for their business interests?
