Pat Powers does a post titled, "THIS is speaking truth to power for the GOP" to respond to Gid of the SD Wingnuts. Excerpt:
Because after the primary is said and done, if we aren’t electing "R’s," there’s the distinct danger that we may be reminded how much we don’t like being in the minority in the legislature. When you’re on a life raft, you don’t start asking about ideology. You talk about survival.
Back in 2002 general election, did Pat Powers tell Tony Dean to stop with the Republicans for Johnson? In 2004, who were those Republicans for Daschle? Why did the SDBWM hate the John Thune supporters after defeating Tom Daschle? Here is an excerpt from a SDBWM 2005 post:
I've spent part of the day reading old, old, old posts by the lonely boys who make up the Apple Dumpling Gang [South Dakota Politics bloggers]. These are from the early days of blogging in South Dakota, when Jason Heppler was still wearing pull-ups and Steve Sibson was chasing Dave Kranz around political conventions trying to see if he wanted to be friends, or at least see his Rush Limbaugh pajamas. And the irony is that half the eunechs in the Dakota Blog Alliance posted anonymously. It wasn't until they all got together for their first circle jerk, commonly referred to as a blogging conference, that they decided to reveal their identities. Problem was, nobody knew who they were and even fewer people cared.
There's only one thing about these goons that pisses me off, and I've mentioned it a few other times: the Republican party was my party long before it was theres.
Doesn’t sound like that liberal Republican cares if it is primary season or not. And neither does Stan Adelstein who supported Democrats during the main election in 2006 and supported Daschle Focus South Dakota in 2004. And Pat Powers with Democrat Todd Epp thought the SDBWM was so great. Working with Democrats is something Pat Powers has in common with Stan Adelstein.
It was the RINO-CINOs who started this fight and I don’t plan on backing down…not even after the 2008 general election is over. So THAT is speaking truth to power… to Pat Powers.
If Pat Powers want to have the kind of victories the GOP had in 2004, then they better start supporting the conservatives in the party, even if they belong to conservative organizations. Jerry Apa makes this point:
The Republicans have two candidates for US Senate and US House plus many State Senate races that are very competitive. What does it say about party priorities when the Lt. Gov is out fundraising for a race that is almost two years out? That is contributors money that could be SUPPORTING this year’s candidates.
Dykstra and Lien must be too conservative to get support from the SD GOP. Their concern is keeping the Pierre Capitol Culture under the control of the good-old-boy clan. As my previous post states, that faction of the Country Club Republicans are about plutocracy, not conservatism. If the SD GOP is really concerned about keeping a majority in the Senate, then they need to understand that promoting and supporting conservatives is how it best can be done.
Are you STILL whining about the SDBWM 3 years after he disappeared?
Let it go Steve, let it go....
[Sibby's response: It is Pat Powers who won't let go of the SDBWM's hillbilly slam...and elitist attack on grass roots conservative South Dakotans.]

Steve:
I'm not at war with either you or Pat Powers. And where does it say, that as a Republican, I can't support the candidate of my choice? We do have something called the first amendment, you know.
Dykstra's candidacy isn't going to result in a US Senate seat. Bet on it.
[Sibby's response: Tony, I thank you for entering into this discussion. We have disagreed, but I respect people like you much more than those who are too apathetic to take interest in ideological debates regarding important issues. I have been both a Democrat and a Republican, and frankly, I am a little taken back by the fraternity mindset of some.
Of course you have the right to support any candidate, but then you have to respect the right of those who call you a RINO for supporting a Democrat.
And in regard to Dykstra, I think you were saying similar things about Thune in 2004.
Great to hear from you, and I look forward to our next hunt...sincerely.
UPDATE: Also note that I do include a link to your web site. I may be the only SD blogger that considers you a part of the South Dakota blogosphere. Hopefully I am wrong and will be corrected.]
