SD delegation on new New Deal

The Democrats are eager to expand socialism with Obama’s call for a new New Deal:

Putting the nation's economy back on track and creating jobs will be among the first issues South Dakota lawmakers work on after the 111th Congress begins Tuesday.

The House is expected to take the lead in debating and voting on a new economic stimulus bill. President-elect Barack Obama and Democratic congressional leaders have been working for weeks to craft a deal that reportedly would cost almost $1 trillion. It is expected to include money to rebuild the nation's bridges and highways, give middle-class Americans a tax cut and help states pay health care costs for the poor.

This sounds way more conservative than Dave Knudson:

Democratic Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin said: "In the first days of the new Congress, I will continue to evaluate the proposed solutions with an eye not only on ensuring we do what we need to do to stimulate and strengthen the economy, but also to ensure that taxpayer funds are guarded and we have a long-term commitment to fiscal responsibility."

And so much for Obama leading the cause of uniting America:

Republican Sen. John Thune is unhappy Democrats have been working on the stimulus bill on their own, and he's worried they won't hold public hearings or seek Republican input. He said he was heartened by a comment Friday from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., that the Senate probably won't take the matter up until February. But he has questions.

"Are they going to just jam us (Republicans) and challenge us to vote against this stuff, or are they going to include us?" Thune asked. "Are they going to be open to Republican ideas about the stimulus or are they just going to put their stuff in there and load it up with a bunch of things they know that Republicans can't be for?"

Things in DC are very scary.
