A letter to the editor of mine ran in today’s Mitchell paper today that explains what inspired to go public with the truth behind the Declaration:
In your July 3, 2008, editorial titled "Founders’ work remembered," your final sentence said, "We celebrate with picnics, fireworks and a day off from work, but we must never take for granted the extraordinary work of the founders," Unfortunately, most consider July 4th simply as a day off from work to party and shoot off fireworks. And what was said earlier in the editorial was far worse than simply taking the work of our founding fathers for granted.
The editorial also said "empty-vessel" terms such as "Nature’s God," "Creator," "Supreme Judge of the World," and "divine Providence," mean the founders’ work was secular proves that the declaration has been diminished by time, misrepresentation, misuse or political manipulation.
As reported in this paper, the Davison County Commission has given me permission to read the Declaration on July 4th this year at 10 a.m. at the Davison County Courthouse band stand. I will attempt to fill the "empty-vessel terms" with the truth of their origins and their meanings. I will address some of the words carved into the stone of the fabulous courthouse walls.
I invite all to start their celebration with a patriotic morning before moving on to your normal parties. Wouldn’t it be nice to bring back the spirit that lived 233 years ago and to better understand the extraordinary work of our founders?
