The Washington Times report on the second email from the Kerry campaign regarding Abu Ghraib:
Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign issued a second mass fund-raising e-mail yesterday based on the Iraqi prisoner abuse situation amid Republican charges that the Democratic candidate is capitalizing on a national disgrace."Keep the ball rolling," urged the e-mail from Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill. "Donate now!"
Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie said the photographs of prisoner abuse are "clearly disgusting, but it's harder to find words to describe those whose first instinct upon seeing them is to raise campaign cash with them."
In her e-mail yesterday, Ms. Cahill thanked supporters for their "amazing" response to her Friday e-mail in which she called for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's resignation and asked for campaign contributions.
Both e-mails included links for signing a petition calling for Mr. Rumsfeld's removal and for raising campaign money. The "Donate now!" icon leads to a donation form allowing supporters to use a credit card to contribute online.
"You sent an incredibly powerful message to the Bush administration, the media and the public: Americans want accountability and responsibility at the highest levels of our government," Ms. Cahill wrote yesterday. "On behalf of John Kerry, I want to thank you for speaking out."
Cahill should take a look at what John Kerry said behind close doors while the Senate was considering holding President Clinton accountable for perjury and obstruction of justice:
Let me turn to the question of removing President William Jefferson Clinton. Many times the House managers have argued to us that if you find the facts as you argue them, you must vote to convict and thereby remove. But of course, that, like a number of things that they said, is really not true. You can, of course, find the facts and still acquit, because you don't want to remove on a constitutional basis or, frankly, on any other balance that a Senator decides to make in the interest of the Nation.
Now, I agree that perjury and obstruction of justice can be grounds for removal or grounds for impeachment. The question is, Are they in this case? I will not dissect the facts any further because I don't have the time but also because I believe there are issues of greater significance than the facts of this case.
“Americans want accountability and responsibility at the highest levels of our government”. John Kerry has proven that he is not capable.
Also, note Kerry’s “in the interest of the Nation” point. Does exposing the photos of Abu Ghraib, really should be considered in the best interest of America? At least it wasn’t for one American.
