Democrats glass house

I found two columns that articulate the Democrats hypocrisy regarding the 9-11 commission. One is by Michelle Malkin and the other is by Hugh Hewitt, who refers to the stone throwing Democrats glass house:

The truth is obvious: Ben-Veniste and Kerrey have thrown the national interest overboard in order to promote the interests of the Democratic Party. They understand that any final Commission report will at best be silent about the lapses of the Clinton administration, and may even be obliged by the weight of the evidence to underscore the negligence of the team that included Bill and Hillary, Sandy, Madeline and Richard. These folks had bin Laden in their sights on four occasions, and never once pulled the trigger. Could 9-11 have been avoided? Perhaps, but only by an all-out assault on the mastermind.

Dems know that the upshot of this reality is a second reality: The Democrats cannot be trusted to attend to the national defense; they cannot be trusted with the national security. No, they are not treasonous, simply unserious. They are to national security what third graders are to automobiles – individuals not capable of driving no matter how eager they might be to get behind the wheel.

This is not all. WorldNet Daily has a report on a Democrat member of the 9-11 commission:

9-11 Commission member Jamie Gorelick wrote a 1995 memo that established a "wall" between the criminal and intelligence divisions, hindering the ability of the U.S. government to detect the Sept. 11, 2001, plot, according to testimony today by Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Democrats resort to terrorism

WorldNetDaily reports on a John Kerryad ran in a Florida paper that includes this threat directed at Rumsfeld and the “whole Bush Bunch”:

And then there's Rumsfeld who said of Iraq "We have our good days and our bad days." We should put this S.O.B. up against a wall and say "This is one of our bad days" and pull the trigger. Do you want t salvage our country? Be a savior of our country? Then vote for John Kerry and get rid of the whole Bush Bunch!

Now that should truly be considered a “negative ad”. Not only do the Democrats play into the hands of the terrorists, they are now using terror tactics.

Negative campaign fabrication

DVT has a post regarding a letter to the editor of the RCJ that charged the John Thune with negative campaigning without cause:

On Friday, April 2, Republican John Thune began his negative campaign against Tom Daschle. Thune was in North Dakota at the state Republican convention when he began his attacks.

Thune ran a dirty campaign last time and it appears he is going to do the same again. While in South Dakota, Thune tells us that he wants to run a clean campaign and then he runs off to North Dakota and goes negative.

When Thune was in the U.S. House of Representatives, he did little or nothing for South Dakota. Despite his "close ties" with the White House, he could not even deliver drought aid to desperate ranchers and farmers. Maybe it is because Thune has accomplished so little that he must fight a negative battle. When the negative campaign begins, it makes November seem a long way off.

Sooner or later, Daschle will likely have to respond to personal attacks. I just hope he waits until a bit later.

LGF in the news

Weblog Little Green Footballs makes it into a WorldNetDaily report:

University of California at Berkeley lecturer speaking at an anti-war rally Saturday called for a Palestinian-style intifada, or uprising, against the United States in response to American actions in the Middle East.

Hatem Bazian, a native Palestinian with a Ph.D. in Islamic studies, stirred up the San Francisco crowd, asking three times, to resounding affirmations, "Are you angry?"

The comments at the outdoor rally held at United Nation's Plaza were caught on a digital camera's movie format by a reader of the popular weblog Little Green Footballs.

SD’s Pork has dropped

The Citizens Against Government Waste has just released it’s 2004 Federal pork per capital by State analysis. South Dakota stayed ranked at seven with an average of $111.56 per capita in Federal pork. If you go to the 2003 report the average was 119.05. Also you will find that the seventh rank was a drop from 2002 when South Dakota was fourth in the Nation regarding Federal pork per capita.

This demonstrates that South Dakota’s share of the pork barrel has dropped since 2002. What does that say for Tom Daschle’s clout?

SDP has a post that links to an Aberdeen News report regarding Daschle’s position on the war in Iraq:

Whether the war has been worth the cost is an individual decision, he said. He said it has been to him.

This comment was made on 4/8/2004 during a press conference with South Daktoa media. Here is what Daschle said on the Senate floor on 3/24/2004 regarding whether we were winning the war on terror:

At a minimum, the Administration's missteps in Iraq have greatly complicated the answer to this question, and attacking Iraq, at least in the short to medium term, may have made Americans less secure not more against terrorist threat.

Tom Daschle: a hawk in SD…a dove in DC. So goes Daschle the chameleon...a hawk for conservative constituents...a dove for liberal buzzflash.

Tony Dean…Socialist?

If you Study Tony Dean’s web site, you will agree that he is a strong supporter of wetlands and public land. Henry Lamb’s column titled, “'U.S. backs U.N. plan to control land” weighs in on this controversy. Here is the ending:

This scheme is an example of the implementation of recommendation D3(1) of the U.N. document adopted in 1976. This scheme is endorsed by the National Conference of State Legislatures and the American Planning Association, and has become a popular tool for local governments to abuse the power of eminent domain at the expense of private-property owners.

Governments have developed a wide array of tools to take private property or to take away the use of private property by the owners. Wetlands was the tool of choice during the 1980s. The federal government took jurisdiction over more than 200 million acres of private property by announcing its "wetlands" policy, which dictated what an owner could or could not do with his own land if the land contained moisture 12-inches below the surface for seven days during the growing season.

The Endangered Species Act, with its "critical habitat" provisions, allows agents of the government to dictate what private owners may or may not do with their own land. The "Clean Water Initiative" takes jurisdiction on either side of every stream, and again, dictates what private owners may or may not do with their own land. Historic districts, heritage areas, scenic highways, scenic rivers, economic development zones and dozens of other designations allow government at every level to control the use of every square inch of private land.

This is precisely the result called for in the 1976 U.N. document.

Perhaps America celebrated too soon when the Berlin Wall fell and we thought capitalism had finally prevailed over socialism. America didn't win. Socialism had already invaded the United States through the United Nations, and had an army of soldiers positioned in high government offices eager to implement its policies.

They don't call it socialism, or communism, anymore; they call it smart growth, open space, wilderness, restoration and environmental protection. Government ownership and control of land use is the foundation of socialism – regardless of what it may be called.

Tony Dean considered himself a conservative Republican in 2002 as he supported Democrat Tim Johnson for Senate. I do not think socialism fits the ideology of a conservative…but would fit a far-left liberal.

Daschle’s clout biased by Argus Leader

There are at least three letters to the editor of the Aberdeen News that are online today. Two are here and here. A third, by Jim Fox of Rapid City, addresses Daschle’s clout:

To the editor - You can tell it's an election year by the way our two Democratic senators vote. Even though Tom Daschle first voted to exclude killing of the fetus as an equal part of the "Unborn Victims Act," when that failed, he jumped on board the final version, which put the fetus on the same plane as the killing of the mother.

Even though Daschle himself agreed that the final version had nothing to do with abortion, with all his clout as minority leader, he apparently wasn't able to convince Johnson, not up for re-election, and about 37 of his fellow Democrats to vote for that act.

Makes you wonder how Herseth, a favorite of the pro-abortion Emily's List, would have voted. Seems like the people representing us have one set of values while in Washington, D.C., and one for when they are politicking back here in South Dakota.

Now we have both senators trying to pass the buck to the president on the energy problems. Apparently, Daschle, with all his clout, couldn't get two more of his fellow Democrats to pass the energy bill to help the ethanol industry in his home state.

David Kranz also talked about Daschle’s clout in his column today. He used three experts to argue that Daschle has not lost his clout and will not be removed as leader of the Senate Democrats. One was Stuart Rothenberg:

Stuart Rothenberg, author of The Rothenberg Political Report and a CNN analyst, says it would be a surprise if that happens.

"There are Democrats who say they would like to be leader, sure," Rothenberg said. "But I don't hear of any move afoot to push him aside. There is no anger about his leadership."

DVT found a Rothenberg Political Report that has this statement from Rothenberg:

Arlington, Va.: Is there any incumbent Senator of either party who would be a good bet to be defeated this time around?

Stuart Rothenberg: Only two are really vulnerable at this point: Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who was appointed to her seat by her daddy, and Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota) who has a terrific opponent in John Thune and has lost the "clout" issue that saved his SD Democratic colleague, Tim Johnson, in 2002.

The David Kranz column in today’s Argus Leader is blatantly biased. He did not cover the obvious lost of clout as stated by Jim Fox. He also left out the analysis of another expert on South Dakota politics regarding Daschle’s clout. Again, David Kranz is using his position as a journalist to help the Daschle campaign shield the truth from South Dakota. His column was nothing more than a free advertisement for Tom Daschle.

What is most disturbing is this will setup the political strategy to call John Thune a negative campaigner when the clout issue is brought up. Again, the bias of the media is fabricating a negative tone in an attempt to treat important issues as taboo. What truly are negative are the media’s approach that stifles a free discussion of important issues… which attacks the freedom of speech our founding fathers found to be critical for freedom to exist.
