South Dakota War College took issue with a Mitchell Daily Republic editorial urging the South Dakota legislature to override Governor Round’s veto of the booster seat law:
Say what? Aside from the fact that their position on the Car Seat bill is patronizing at best, did they actually say "Rounds, in rejecting the legislation, said the law would be difficult to enforce and "unworkable" for large families. Though Rounds is Roman Catholic, you don’t have to be of that faith to appreciate the special challenges that booster seats present.
Good gosh, why don't they discuss being Irish with legislation on public intoxication, or insert your other favorite racial/xenophobic stereotypes. It's even worse when they use it in such a way to intimate that it's affecting how an elected official is viewing the legislation.
The Catholic League notes on their website that...today’s brand of anti-Catholicism is more virulent and more pervasive than ever before in American history.
and...
Quite simply, Catholic bashing has become a staple of American society.
Read that here. And I guess those stereotypes in the form of snide comments translate over into the editorial views of one of our state's daily newspapers.
Mitchell Daily Republic - shame on you.
While I agree that the booster seat law should remain dead and that bringing up Round’s religion was not all that relevant, I do not believe it warrants allegations that the MDR was bashing Catholics. Having a large family should be considered a blessing. I would think PP would agree with that since he is onto number six. Vut I would not equate the blessings of a large family to a public drunk. The MDR was not Catholic bashing. If you want to see true Catholic bashing, go to Steve Hildebrand’s blog run by Chad Schuldt.
And since Todd Epp piled on by saying the "MDR was completely out of line" and owes Catholics an apology, let me direct you to his post mocking those who promote South Dakota’s Purity Balls. There you will find another far-left pro-abortion supporter who hates moral values, and who owes the Unruhs and Roger Hunt an apology. And Epp's personal attacks are typical of what the Argus Leader considers mature political discourse and who they consider worthy to be on their blogroll.
