From the Argus Leader:
Rosa Parks School will accept kindergartners first-come-first-served for its new Spanish immersion class, but the program could be expanded before it starts if enough parents sign up their children.
The school board approved the immersion program on a 5-0 vote Monday night, setting up a three-part change at Rosa Parks. Next fall, one section of kindergartners, perhaps 20 to 25 children, will be in a classroom where all teaching and conversation is in Spanish. Beginning in fall 2009, all students in every classroom will be taught Spanish 15 minutes a day. Also in fall 2009, teachers will bring a new emphasis of global studies to each grade.
