Cory Heidelberger is celebrating the continued SDHSAA policy that allows boys to shower with girls by using a cultural Neo-Marxist based issue...transgender. His excitement lead him to issue a false attack at Senator Phil Jensen:
Then Senator Jensen, with frustration that even the black-and-white minutes of the conference committee cannot hide, moved (with Rep. Haugaard’s second!) to amend SB 140 to read as follows (Jensen’s text in bold):
The transgender policy adopted by the board of directors of the South Dakota High School Activities Association at its meeting on June 11, 2014, shall apply to the legislators elected to the South Dakota Legislature during session and interim committees.
ACLU-SD’s Libby Skarin reports that Senator Jensen apparently felt he was striking a blow against hypocrisy: in committee, he said something to the effect that if the SDHSAA’s transgender policy is good enough for kids, it should be good enough for the Legislature.
While I would welcome Senator Jensen’s effort to identify and remove any gender-based barriers to participation in the Legislature, I suspect his intent was more to trivialize the debate with a provocative rhetorical ploy that disrespects all sincere parties seeking sincere discussion of transgender issues in high school activities.
The conference committee, mercifully, did not act on Senator Jensen’s wisecrack. Throwing in the towel, Rep. Bolin substituted a motion to not concur and not appoint, meaning report to the Senate and House that SB 140 cannot be fixed and should be discussed no further. All conferees but Jensen agreed, and the committee adjourned, leaving SB 140 for dead… which we can only hope will be the same state of all the bullying Senator Jensen and other Republicans have heaped on South Dakota’s transgender students this session.
So Heidelberger resorts to a false allegation against Senator Jensen by saying he does not seek a sincere discussion of transgender issues. Jensen did support having that discussion. That is recorded in the Senate Journal:
The question being on Sen. Otten's motion that HB 1195 be placed on today's calendar.
And the roll being called:
Yeas 16, Nays 19, Excused 0, Absent 0
Yeas: Cammack; Ewing; Greenfield (Brock); Haggar (Jenna); Heineman (Phyllis); Holien; Jensen (Phil); Lederman; Monroe; Novstrup (David); Olson; Omdahl; Otten (Ernie); Peterson (Jim); Rampelberg; Van Gerpen
Nays: Bradford; Brown; Buhl O'Donnell; Curd; Frerichs; Haverly; Heinert; Hunhoff (Bernie); Parsley; Peters; Rave; Rusch; Soholt; Solano; Sutton; Tidemann; Tieszen; Vehle; White
So the motion not having received an affirmative vote of a majority of the members-elect, the President declared the motion lost.
Note Jensen, and Democratic Senator Jim Peterson, was among those who wanted to put the transgender issue up for discussion. Cory's false allegations lead to a racist comment by Porter Lansing:
… hateful, uncompassionate and obdurate Republicans with unabashed disdain for anyone different. Political correctness is a term they use to mask criticism of these selfish over privileged whites.
Not surprising to see a cultural Neo-Marxists issue such as transgender bring racism and white hatred into the discussion.
Then comes an attack directed toward God:
If gawd had wanted transgender kids,by gawd he/she/it would have made them
Transgender kids were caused by a female being deceived by Satan in the Garden and rebelled against God. Deuteronomy 22:5 makes it clear that God considers the transgender life style an abomination:
A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God.
And speaking of a deceived female rebelling against God, that comment was immediately followed up by ELCA pastor Deb Geelsdottir:
“Rep. Haugaard then offered a harsher amendment.” And his harsher amendment was all about ignoring real information, knowledge, facts and expertise.
There we have the right wing, 1%, oligarchy playbook: Pay no attention to anything but our fears, prejudices, hatreds, and whatever will make us even more shamefully wealthy! Woo-hoo!
Somebody should inform the false teacher that the liberal Republican cronies who are on the inside of the SDGOP leadership joined with all but one Senate Democrat and voted against bringing this issue to the Senate floor. And I already posted on the corporatists support of men showering with women. Trying to talk sense to her resulted in my ban from Cory's web site. So much for fostering a real discussion on any issue, let alone this one. Turning the table on the liberals deceptive practices by using simple logic, research, and the truth really upsets them.
Of Course Cory Heidelberger can't help but use this act of deception for political gain with this comment:
Anti-intellectualism, Deb. Right on the head. Ignore experts, ignore evidence, ignore reality. These transgender bills seem to be focusing on a small issue, affecting a small fraction of the population, but they are big because (among other things) they are emblematic of what we’re up against in uprooting Republican control of this state.
Any chance we’ll be able to use this bill against the Republicans in 2016?
Right Cory, tell people that the Republicans are against high school boys having a shower with the girls. Good luck with that. Ignoring biology, ignoring reality, and ignoring the rule of law is what Cory and his gang of New Age Theocrats are guilty of. And because of their lack of discernment, they are playing right into the hands of the 1% oligarchy. I will be showing the oligarchy's playbook in future posts.
And what are the revolutionary and rebellious liberal Democrats going to do with Democratic Senator Jim Peterson who voted for having a discussion on the SDHSAA establishment's inappropriate policy?
