Planned Parenthood’s latest problems

First we have Planned Parenthood having financial problems:

Kate Looby, one of the most prominent figures in South Dakota's heated political battles over abortion, has been laid off by Planned Parenthood, the organization confirmed this week.

Looby, the group's South Dakota state director, was one of nine full-time employees and one part-timer cut from Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, said director of media relations Kathi Di Nicola. The rest of the cuts occurred in Minnesota.

Looby's duties included public affairs and legislative work in Pierre. She also had led South Dakota's two Planned Parenthood clinics - one in Sioux Falls and another in Rapid City - since March 2003.

Her departure was "a result of some tough decisions we had to make in light of the economy," Di Nicola said.

"She is phenomenal, and she's been a champion for us for years."

Looby told The Associated Press that she understands it was a financial decision.

And then there is this:

Planned Parenthood suspended a Bloomington abortion clinic employee after new footage from an undercover camera was released Wednesday showing the staff member deliberately ignoring the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl by a 31-year-old and advising her to seek an abortion in another state to avoid Indiana's strict parental consent laws.

The footage shows Lila Rose, a UCLA student journalist and president of right-to-life advocacy group Live Action, posing as a 13-year-old seeking abortion. In an appointment with a Planned Parenthood nurse, Rose says she has been impregnated by a 31-year-old man, a clear case of child molestation punishable as a felony under Indiana state law.

On tape, the nurse acknowledges her responsibility to report the abuse, but assures Rose she will not. The nurse says, "I am supposed to report to Child Protective Services," but tells Rose, "Okay, I didn't hear the age [of the 31-year-old]. I don't want to know the age."

She then instructs Rose how to obtain a secret abortion by crossing state lines to avoid Indiana's parental consent law. The nurse also coaches Rose to cover for the 31-year-old man by saying he is only 14. She says, "You've seen him around, you know he's 14, he's in your grade and whatever. You know what I mean."

Immediately following the video's release, Planned Parenthood of Indiana issued a statement acknowledging they had suspended the employee in the video without pay.

Even though the abortion ban efforts have not passed, the pressure has had an impact on abortion providers. The abortion war must continue.

For the health of the mother, ban abortion

More on the mounting evidence that abortion is not healthy for the mother:

A new research study featuring numerous controls and a national data set finds a link between abortion and psychiatric disorders. The study refutes the report the American Psychiatric Association released in August claiming abortion causes no mental health issues for women.

The research team found induced abortions result in increased risks for a myriad of mental health problems ranging from anxiety to depression to substance abuse disorders.

The number of cases of mental health issues rose by as much as 17 percent in women having abortions compared to those who didn't have one and the risks of each particular mental health problem rose as much as 145% for post-abortive women.

For 12 out of 15 of the mental health outcomes examined, a decision to have an abortion resulted in an elevated risk for women.

"Abortion was found to be related to an increased risk for a variety of mental health problems (panic attacks, panic disorder, agoraphobia, PTSD, bipolar disorder, major depression with and without hierarchy), and substance abuse disorders after statistical controls were instituted for a wide range of personal, situational, and demographic variables," they wrote.

"Calculation of population attributable risks indicated that abortion was implicated in between 4.3% and 16.6% of the incidence of these disorders," they concluded.

Dr. Priscilla Coleman, a professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Bowling Green State University, led the research team that conducted the study.

Together with Catherine Coyle of Edgewood College, researcher Martha Shuping and psychologist Dr. Vincent Rue, they published their results online today at the Journal of Psychiatric Research, a well-established and respected journal.

The researchers found women who had abortions, compared with those who didn't had a 120% risk for alcohol abuse, with or without dependence, a 145% increased risk of alcohol dependence, 79% increased risk of drug abuse with or without dependence and a 126% increase in the risk of drug dependence.

For mood disorders, the experience of an abortion increased risk of developing bipolar disorder by 167%, major depression without hierarchy by 45% and major depression with hierarchy by 48%.

For anxiety disorders, there was a 111% increased risk for panic disorders, 44% increased risk for panic attacks, 59% increased risk for PTSD, 95% increased risk for agoraphobia with or without panic disorder and a 93% increased risk for agoraphobia without panic disorder.

There was no mental health outcome showing abortion to have decreased the risk or a high risk for women who did not have an abortion.

Pro-life’s life after November

Pro-life forces have to come to grips with this:

Despite election setbacks on many fronts, anti-abortion leaders sound more defiant than deflated as they brace for a future with fewer friends in high places.

With Democrats soon to be in full control in Washington, tactics for anti-abortion groups are likely to refocus on street protests, grass-roots activism and state legislation. One major three-day protest is scheduled to start in the nation's capital on Jan. 21, a day after Barack Obama's inauguration as president.

"The election forces the pro-life movement to go back to what we do best — local grass-roots organizing," said the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition. "We will not go silently into the night."

At almost every level, last week's election was a stinging defeat for the anti-abortion movement, starting with Obama's presidential victory. Priests for Life said voters "made a grave mistake," while Mahoney's group, in a refrain shared by many conservatives, contended that Obama will be "the most radical pro-abortion president" in U.S. history.

In Congress, supporters of abortion rights now hold 17 more seats in the House and at least four more in the Senate, according to NARAL Pro-Choice America. And at the state level, voters in Colorado, South Dakota and California defeated ballot measures that would have banned or restricted abortions.

Obama's election also dashed hopes within the anti-abortion movement for possible Supreme Court vacancies over the next four years to be filled by judges who might support reversal of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision establishing a right to abortion.

This week, Cal Thomas addressed the issue with this:

Thirty years of trying to use government to stop abortion, preserve opposite-sex marriage, improve television and movie content and transform culture into the conservative Evangelical image has failed. The question now becomes: should conservative Christians redouble their efforts, contributing more millions to radio and TV preachers and activists, or would they be wise to try something else?

I opt for trying something else.

Too many conservative Evangelicals have put too much faith in the power of government to transform culture.

Thomas uses history to further his point:

Social movements that relied mainly on political power to enforce a conservative moral code weren’t anywhere near as successful as those that focused on changing hearts. The four religious revivals, from the First Great Awakening in the 1730s and 1740s to the Fourth Great Awakening in the late ’60s and early ’70s are testimony to that.

So Thomas suggest this alternative:

If results are what conservative Evangelicals want, they already have a model. It is contained in the life and commands of Jesus of Nazareth. Suppose millions of conservative Evangelicals engaged in an old and proven type of radical behavior. Suppose they followed the admonition of Jesus to "love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison and care for widows and orphans," not as ends, as so many liberals do by using government, but as a means of demonstrating God’s love for the whole person in order that people might seek Him?

And may I suggest that we take on the institution that is changing hearts and minds of people toady…public education.

This shows how false the current ads run by the pro-abortion really are:

Opponents of an initiated abortion ban say the measure would let state officials "paw through" the medical records of any woman who had an abortion.

But supporters of the ban say the initiative, which voters will decide in Tuesday's general election, doesn't change the way the state Health Department handles medical information.

The disagreement is the latest in the ongoing campaign over Initiated Measure 11, a proposed law that would criminalize abortion in South Dakota except for those done to save the life or health of a pregnant woman or for pregnancies that resulted from reported rape or incest.

At issue in the latest debate is Section 18, a part of the proposed law that would require any doctor who performed an abortion to give the Health Department a written statement documenting the exception under which the procedure was performed and all of the "facts and circumstances upon which the physician relied in complying with all of the requirements and conditions" of that exception. The statements, due quarterly, wouldn't include a patient's name. If the Health Department asked in writing, the doctor would be required to provide a copy of the patient's records with the name redacted, or blocked out.

The liberal’s ad makes it sounds like privacy will be compromised if IM11 becomes law. Clearly…false.

Being duped by liberal lies

Jill Stanek describes how those who have the heart in the right spot are derived by the lies promoted by the left and not challenged by the Drive-By media:

The next time my column is published, America will have elected a new president.

Incredibly, a segment of the pro-life voting population is in play. They should be in the bag for John McCain, or even Alan Keyes, but certainly not for Darth Abortion Vader Obama.

But Barack Obama and his surrogates have been making the pitch that despite his unflinching support for abortion on demand – which includes overturning every local, state and federal law against abortion as well as providing government funding for abortion both in the U.S. and internationally – his plan to throw more taxpayer money at failed comprehensive sex ed and contraceptive programs will result in fewer abortions.

And apparently, some very stupid pro-lifers and pro-lifers in name only are falling for it. Yet in no other realm would such an argument hold water.

Were Obama to support overturning every law against theft but argue that his plan to teach people how to avoid pickpockets would result in less theft, we would call him crazy.

Were Obama to support overturning every law against rape but argue his plan to teach women how to fend off rapists would result in fewer rapes, we would call him not only crazy but sick.

Yet we have Obama making that very argument on the abortion issue and some pro-lifers buying it.

Obama is also hedging that his abortion positions are so heinous, another segment of voters will simply believe facts are lies. Obama helps them along by simply denying his own history as the mainstream media looks the other way.

Voter fraud allegations in South Dakota

A well-known pro-choice campaign is facing allegations of voter fraud.

VoteYesForLife.com, a pro-life organization in support of banning most abortions in South Dakota, says the Campaign for Healthy Families has been encouraging people to vote, even though they don't plan on staying in South Dakota after the election, which is illegal. "Vote Yes" is asking Attorney General Larry Long to investigate after submitting an audio transcript to him late Friday.

"Me [SIC]are interested in learning more about this. It was submitted by a concerned citizen who is a supporter of the campaign and we just found out about it within the last two days," said spokesperson Brandi Gruis of VoteYesForLife.com.

Meanwhile, Nathan Peterson with the Campaign for Healthy Families calls the allegations a "political stunt." He said, "We haven't engaged in illegal activity that would violate South Dakota law and to my knowledge we certainly aren't engaged in some sort of conspiracy to commit massive voter fraud. I think that that's just a ridiculous assertion."

At this time, Sara Rabern with the Attorney General's Office is not aware that they've received any information. Attorney General Larry Long had no comment.

Herseth Sandlin: abortion is medicine

IM11 bans abortion for the sake of birth control. Representative Herseth Sandlin thinks that bans medicine:

Herseth Sandlin said the proposal is ambiguous and should be rejected because it will interfere with women's private decisions, adding that the government should not meddle in medicine.

Pro-life libertarians

Bruce Earnhart of Libertarians for Life has an interesting analysis regarding the libertarian ideology. On the face, most would argue the socialism conservatives are incompatible with libertarianism. Here is why:

In the realm of social or personal activities, we uphold the right of individuals to exercise any peaceable behavior, including what many consider culturally outrageous and morally reprehensible. It is for this reason that we oppose all anti-vice laws, laws without identifiable, flesh and blood victims. These would include laws against gambling, ingesting drugs, and behavior that may be considered sexually deviant.

Anti-vice legislation is usually thought of as a concern of conservatives. But there is another aspect of social and/or personal freedom that liberals seek to prohibit. Legal sanctions against this type of freedom are usually termed "social engineering." This includes laws against discrimination as well as laws that seek to mandate egalitarianism (e.g., the "melting pot" justification for public schooling). Libertarians oppose all such legislative tinkering. We believe in voluntary association.

But this helps us understand that the principled libertarians does support the pro-life position of social conservatives:

Libertarianism is not simply a litany of liberties. Freedom without responsibility towards others is license, not libertarianism. There is no right to rape, to steal, or to imperil another's life by driving carelessly. Aggression against others is criminal behavior. All libertarians concede that everyone has the right to control his or her own body. Pro-life libertarians recognize that this right does not countenance injury to an unborn human being.

Abortion is the ultimate aggression: homicide

Abortion isn't a vice; it's homicide. Conception begins a process of biological development that leads to the maturing of a human being. Personhood (the state of being by which we have rights, including the right not to be killed) is not acquired along the way. It inheres in the human being from conception.

The claim has been made that despite the personhood of the unborn, pregnant women are justified in evicting them from their bodies by virtue of their right to control their own bodies. But as a matter of biology, the unborn are separate, individual human beings. They are not a part of their mother's body, despite their dependence upon her. Furthermore, they aren't intruders. They are brought into existence by forces outside of their control.

Another are in which social conservatives and libertarians should find common ground is in regard to school choice. It is in the government education monopoly where the religion of humanism causes too many to believe that abortion is a right. And there are many other myths and lies that are indoctrinated by the government education monopoly.

If we want to restore Truth and Freedom in American, we must have a great awakening lead by coalition of libertarians and social conservatives. We may have disagreements on a couple of issues, but we hold in common much more important principles that have been abandoned by our political leaders.

Lives being spared from abortion

Prayer vigils are effective at Planned Parenthood abortion mills:

Organizers of a campaign against abortion that is scheduled to end just before the November election are declaring their effort a success, just halfway through the six weeks of work.

"I know 40 Days for Life is on the right track whenever Planned Parenthood cranks up its PR machine," said Shawn Carney, national outreach director of 40 Days for Life. "And if you read some of the things Planned Parenthood and its supporters are publishing these days, it's obvious that the nation's largest abortion chain sees trouble on the horizon."

In two previous campaigns by Christians to disrupt America's abortion industry with continuous prayer, officials say 35,000 people have participated in vigils, 514 babies have been saved and five abortion industry workers have lost their jobs.

The third campaign is going on now in dozens of cities where prayer warriors are assigned to be on the sidewalks outside abortion businesses for 24 hours a day. It is scheduled to conclude Nov. 2.

"By our best estimates, tens of thousands of pro-life people in more than 175 communities in 47 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa and two Canadian provinces are participating," said Carney. "Local campaign coordinators report that thus far, at least 268 mothers have left abortion facilities without having abortions."

He said in addition, pro-life pregnancy resource centers are reporting a significant increase in calls for help, and local campaign coordinators are reporting a drop in the number of abortion business customers, a decline of up to 30 or even 50 percent in some locations.

"We know of at least two clinic employees who have quit their jobs in the abortion industry," said Carney.

One Planned Parenthood facility in Vermont has reportedly been running newspaper ads, seeking replacement employees to assist with its abortion business. Several abortion businesses simply have remained closed on some days.

"Planned Parenthood in particular doesn't like 40 Days for Life," Carney said.

MSM refuses to expose Obama’s abortion lies

Jill Stanek takes on Barack Obama:

Sen. Barack Obama lied in last night's debate about his opposition to an Illinois bill aimed at protecting an infant who survives an abortion, charges the nurse who instigated the legislation.

Jill Stanek, a WND columnist, launched her work as a pro-life activist after witnessing the death of an infant who survived an abortion but was left untreated.

In a column today, she asserts that last night, in the third and final debate with GOP rival Sen. John McCain, Obama "obfuscated his radical record of abandoning abortion survivors to die in hospital soiled utility rooms."

The subject was raised by McCain.

"Sen. Obama, as a member of the Illinois State Senate, voted in the Judiciary Committee against a law that would provide immediate medical attention to a child born of a failed abortion. He voted against that," the GOP senator said.

Obama responded, arguing the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which he opposed, "said you have to provide lifesaving treatment and that would have helped to undermine Roe v. Wade."

"LIE," writes Stanek. "BAIPA simply stated all born alive babies became legally protected persons immediately upon birth, no matter what gestational age and no matter if unwanted abortion survivors."

Continues Stanek, "Obama further obfuscated his radical record of abandoning abortion survivors to die in hospital soiled utility rooms by adding 'there was already a law on the books in Illinois that required providing lifesaving treatment. ...'

"LIE," Stanek writes. "Illinois abortion law to this day only protects abortion survivors their abortionist deems fit to live. The potential for subjective assessments in these cases is clear to all but Obama. In fact, Obama opposed closing this loophole by voting against legislation to mandate a second doctor be present at deliveries of all live abortion survivors to independently assess their viability."

She notes Obama not only opposed the state's proposed protection for infants, "he took a leadership role to kill it. His website still contains an ABC News quote from the Illinois Planned Parenthood CEO at the time stating 'Obama approached her' to strategize to defeat BAIPA as well as the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. Barack Obama actually sought out PP to help him defeat a bill protecting abortion survivors."

"Finally, for four years Obama lied about his record opposing BAIPA. In 2003 he voted against an identical version that passed 98-0 in the U.S. Senate and for which the pro-abortion group NARAL even expressed neutrality," Stanek writes.

"He then purported several times, as recently as August 16, 2008, that the bills were not identical and he would have supported the Illinois version had it been the same as the federal version. This was yet another LIE, which Obama's campaign finally had to recant after his actual vote tally from the Illinois General Assembly archive was posted online," she writes.

"I'm beyond disgusted that Obama continues to repeat the same lies without MSM (mainstream media) investigating and denouncing him.
